Resources for home buying research in Northern Virginia

I often have clients ask me about a particular neighborhood or a school. They want to know if the neighborhood is safe or if a certain school is good.  As it’s against Fair Housing law to “steer” clients in a certain direction based on my opinion (which may be different than my clients), I put together a list of resources that my clients could use to do their own research and base their own opinions.

Neighborhood stats: www.Neighborhoodscout.com
School scores and to read parent reviews: www.greatschools.org and www.schoolmatters.trulia.com
Sex offenders-Where they are located: www.sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov/sor/
Crime statistics: Alexandria City: http://www3.alexandriava.gov/police/crime_reports/index.php,
Fairfax County: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/crime/statistics/,
Arlington County: http://www.arlingtonva.us/Departments/Police/PoliceMain.aspx
Prince William County:  http://www.pwcgov.org/government/dept/police/Pages/Crime-Statistics.aspx
Loudoun County: http://sheriff.loudoun.gov/index.aspx?NID=106

Environmental research by zip code: http://www2.epa.gov/aboutepa/epa-virginia

Fairfax County School Boundary: http://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/

Alexandria City School Boundary: http://www.acps.k12.va.us/enroll/zonelocator.php

Arlington County School Boundary: http://www.apsva.us/page/3001

This gives my clients a way to reduce their search to areas where they really feel comfortable living. This saves time as my clients don’t want to find the perfect home and then have it be in an area where they aren’t comfortable living.  They always say real estate is all about location, location, location and it truly is.  Please contact me if you would like to see a certain neighborhood or home.
